Name: Shumei
Nicknames: Deep Freeze, Snowman, Blue
Age: 135, appears 20
Race: Half-Human ( part Ice Elemental )
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 157 lbs
Hair: Shumei's hair, which is colored a haunting semi-transparent sky blue, extends halfway down his back, tied into a ponytail at his neck. The front of his hair is much shorter in comparison, although long enough to where his bangs cover one side of his face, generally leaving only his right eye exposed.
Eyes: Dark blue in the center, with a rim of bright blue along the outside of the iris.
Scars: One scar extends from his left elbow to between the middle and ring fingers of his left hand, while another scar runs from his right shoulder.
Abilities: Temperature Control: In order for his abilities to even work, Shumei has a very accurate control over temperature. By drawing temperature into or away from molecules, he can create ice, water, or even fire, as awkward as it sounds for an ice elemental.
Enhanced Physical Abilities: Compared to regular humans, Shumei is outstandingly strong and quick. His reaction time is much higher than that of humans, and his physical durability is remarkable, in part to being able to use heat or cold to deal with pain.
Ice Shadows: Other than the standard 'make and shoot an icicle' kind of ice ability, Shumei has created a technique with ice similar to that of a shadow clone. By focusing on a matrix of particles, Shumei freezes particular molecules, while leaving other molecules water, and by setting up a network of molecules in extremely precise forms, the light reflected or refracted by each molecule is a specific color, allowing him to create dopplegangers of himself or others, or sometimes inanimate objects. Currently, he lacks the energy or expertise with his abilities to create movement, or longlasting 'sculptures'.
Swordplay: Shumei has become well aquanted with a self-taught kind of swordsmanship, centered around a weapon called a Bladed Tonfa. The design of his weapon allows his fighting style to be both offensive and defensive, and the ability to not worry about focusing on one more than the other.
Shumei is also obviously one heck of a snowball fighter, and ice sculture. He can also cook delicious italian and japanese dishes.
Defects: Stamina: Although his actual physical stamina is great, the energy required for his more advanced elemental abilities leaves him drained very quickly of his spiritual energy. He can take some of his physical energy to use for elemental techniques, but he rarely uses this option, opting to fight with his tonfa.
Left arm: Having his left arm injured in a fight years ago, Shumei often finds that his arm gives out on him. Although the arm functions properly day to day, if used excessively in combat, his arm will cease functioning for about a day, depending on the strain.
Weapon(s)/Form(s) of Combat: As mentioned above, Shumei wields a bladed Tonfa, using a self-styled sword technique, although he can also create bladed and various other weapons out of ice when needed.
Signature Weapon:
Cold Blooded: This is the only actual weapon Shumei carries on him. The weapon is a variant of a Tonfa Baton, possessing a blade instead of a blunt edge alongside the main part of the weapon. The blade extends the entire length of Shumei's forearm, ending about a foot from the end of his fingertips. The weapon is comprised of a special steel alloy, using elemental essence to get the edge of the blade a sub-zero temperature at all times, as well as giving the body of the weapon a transparent blue appearence.
Family: Mother: Megumi: Dead
Father: ? : Unknown
Sister: Ayumi: Unknown
Background: Shumei was born near the area of the planet referred to as the Arctic Circle, from an unexpected romance. His mother, Megumi, was of Japanese decent, and was travelling in the Siberean area after war broke out between the great nations on the opposite side of the continent. She had been hired by her government to spy on the nation above her home island nation, to gather data from their participation in the war. While she was exploring the remote regions for any information, she came under attack from a detached group of soldiers, pinning her behind a snow bank. As the bullets flew past her, she curled up, praying to one of her gods for help. Suddenly, icicles shot up from underneath the soldiers, cutting them into pieces. Looking out, she saw a young man, surrounded in ice crystals. This man was an ice elemental, a being hidden away from knowledge for many years. The elemental took the woman to the nearest town, under the guise of a soldier. Before the two parted, Megumi thanked the 'man', and allowed the man whatever he wanted with her. Which we should be able to guess what happened. After that night, the elemental was never seen again. Nine months later, Megumi gave birth to twins, and boy and a girl, whom she named Shumei and Ayumi.
As a few months went by, Megumi decided to return to her homeland, finding it too dangerous to continue living where she had settled. Despite having learned minimal knowledge on her mission, she was still welcomed home by her government, who took great notice of her unique children. From an early age, they began to show great promise in mental and physical aspects. Shumei was able to speak full sentenced by the time he was one, and Ayumi was capable of writing as fluently as her brother spoke. The government began running tests on the children, being careful not to cause any negative effects on them. Despite the fact that the children had translucent blue hair, and sparkling blue eyes, the government found nothing different about them physically, causing them to give up testing. As the years went by, the children began to explore their country more, and when Shumei had reached adulthood, he bid farewell to his mother and sister, wanting to see more of what the world had to offer.
Before departing his country, Shumei encountered a young woman who would soon become everything to him; her name was Keiko. Although Shumei had never really focused on forming relationships, instead having learned to be a loner, he soon found himself growing closer to Keiko, as the two began traveling the world together. In forming a bond with Keiko, Shumei began to discover the latent abilities passed onto him by his father. As they travelled, Shumei began to learn control over the temperature, allowing him to create ice. The only person who knew of his power was Keiko, who found great joy in the unique abilities her boyfriend had. The two travelled together for nearly five years, before tragedy struck.
On their journey through a desert country, the two came under attack by a group of bandits. Harnessing his power, Shumei created a sword out of ice, battling against the bandits. SLowly, he began to defeat them, until only a few were left standing. Wounded, and tired, Shumei fell to his knees, the ice shattering into dust. As his vision faded, he watched as the leader raised his own sword, preparing to finish Shumei. Closing his eyes, Shumei put the last of his energy into the left arm, thrusting a blade of ice straight forward as the bandit swung his sword. His body numb, Shumei opened his eyes, his body running a different kind of cold with what he saw. In front of him was Keiko, the sword of the bandit cut halfway into her torso. Even worse, was the blade Shumei created, stabbed through her right side, continuing through her into their leader, straight into his heart. The ice shattered, and Shumei caught his beloved as she fell. Laying in his arms, her skin began to fade, blood pouring from her chest, and running from her lips. With her dying breath, she whispered to Shumei about how she cherished the years travelled with him, that she died to protect what she move valued, and that she truly loved him. As she slipped away, Shumei broke down into uncontrollable sobbing, the tears falling as crystals. Standing to his feet, he bellowed a saddening scream, piercing the air in horrifying torment for several miles. Holding his left arm up, he unleashed all the dorment energy inside his body, wanting nothing more than to obliterate those who took Keiko from him. In a nightmarish cry, Shumei released his powers, first causing his left arm to crack from his hand to his elbow, spraying blood. In what seemed like a bomb exploding, a shockwave spread out from Shumei, racing across the area. Instantly, everything was frozen solid. For nearly a mile, the sand of the desert was covered in ice. Every human, animal, or plant caught in Shumei's wrath shattered instantly into dust. The only beings spared were Shumei, and Keiko's body. Having buried her in the desert, where no one would ever find her, Shumei trudged on, wondering what could release the pain he felt. His abilities had nearly left him after that; it was nearly another twenty years before he regained even the slightest bit of his abilities.
For over a hundred years, Shumei has continued traveling the planet, seeing the most beautiful of what the world has to offer, for the memory of the one he felt was his fault for losing. In his travels, he has become aquanted with many cultures and customs, and met many people. The loner part of his nature keeps him moving on, unable to form strong attachments to anyone. Sadness is his way of life, never having recovered from his mistake. Now, Shumei stumbles into a city called Severance. There had been rumours of... otherworldly beings, appearing in the city. As something not fully human himself, Shumei has decided to see if the rumors were true, hopefully being able to answer a few of his own questions.
