Severance of Souls v0.9 - Created: 5.17.08
SoS v0.9 takes place in the year 2051 A.D. As one would expect, technology has taken gigantic leaps and bounds since the dawn of the new millennium. As oil mining has passed peak production, costs have skyrocketed to near $15 per gallon of gas at the pump. Because of this spike in prices, engineers and scientists were burdened to find long-term solutions, though they were paid a pretty penny to do it. In recent years, several alternative fuels have been introduced for mainstream use at the newly installed "All-Purpose Fueling Stations". Some smaller traditional cars operate mostly from water and synthetic gasoline, while traditional trucks and other lager traditional vehicles are operating by high-grade synthetic diesel, and electricity. Hovering cars have been in use for almost a decade now, and run mainly from electricity, though you'll sometimes come across the odd hovercar that operates by standard rocket fuel. Mass transit is in more widespread use than ever before, as most people can't afford to keep up with rising fuel costs.
Computer terminals are used for just about everything imaginable now, from refrigerators, to bathroom stalls... Go figure.
Life is going by pretty smoothly. Very routine. Much like the dawn of the millennium, but with smarter technology and seriously improved health care. However, rumour has it that something evil is on the loose in the city of Severance. Rumour states that there have been dozens of attacks on the citizens, from what has been described as a form of vampire. The alleged vampire at times has been described as very appealing to the senses, and very easygoing. The alleged vampire would lure victims away from public eyes and then make its move to feed on targets. Others say the vampire appears randomly in the alleys at night, to feed on any unsuspecting person who would be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Others still, report a dark figure that would seem to summon a small group of what appeared to be zombies, and they would all feed on the unfortunate citizen who would be present at the time.
As a result, security has been increased during the night hours, with a lot of police working double shifts. Morale in the force is plummeting deeper and deeper into the ground as the attacks grow more and more frequent. Discussions are underway, regarding the possibility of martial law. Police would be working in cooperation with the military, to keep everything in check until further steps are taken to prevent these attacks, and to capture the party or parties involved.
.::IN SHORT::.
Any thread taking place in the night-time is game for an unplanned attack by the villain described above. You can take on some of the undead on a small scale if you wish, but large-scale slaying of zombies is prohibited until later on in the story.
.::HOW STORYLINES WORK::.
Now, and in the future, members must follow the regulations set in place by the creator and moderator of a given storyline. There is a board dedicated specifically to the short list of rules set in place for a given story. In this case, there are very few. So you don't have to be bothered by looking up the rules, I'll set them in place right now:
#1 - This particular storyline is one I like to call a "by-the-book" storyline, meaning there's lnot much room for deviation, so if you have an idea for a plot twist, run it by the moderator before going anywhere with it. Often times, the people creating a storyline want things to go a certain way without too many variables. At the same time, they like to have a few variables to make it more interesting and stimulating. Just make sure you run it by someone first. (In this case, run it by ME)
#2 - As the moderator of this storyline, I declare that any night-time thread is game for an attack by the criminal in question.
#3 - Nobody knows the identity of the criminal until after a member has been attacked, and the criminal officially releases their identity to a victim.
Keep checking in from time to time for updates, as more rules are bound to be made as the story progresses.
