Hitomi leaned on the bar counter, resting momentarily. She knew that she didn't have a long break, but that fact didn't really bother her. She loved what she did, even with the low pay and drunken crowds. These were her kind of crowds. She wasn't sure why she enjoyed these people so much, but the fact was she did. Maybe it was that every night she'd get to hear a different story, maybe it made her feel good to see people more unhappy than she was, or maybe - and possibly the most upbeat of all - she could help a lot of people from where she was. This "restaurant" was mostly just a bar for the lower class, or for those trying to keep a low profile. Most of the people who came in had one problem or another, and much to her surprise, sometimes just listening to their story would help them out. Cleared their heads, she supposed. She'd never really been the type to talk about her problems, more the type to take a walk by herself and return a much calmer individual, at least that's what she'd do on a good day. The alternative involved a couple of fire spells and some mean words. That was also sort of satisfying.
"What are you doing you lazy woman? Get back to work!" Louie called out from the back room.
"I'll work the day you pay me some actual wages!" She called back, almost affectionately at this point. That was the kind of relationship she had with her boss. He would never fire her, because she knew everyone who came in and they were all chums, plus she worked damn hard and he knew it. On the flipside, she would never quit because she loved what she did. Still, she knew it was time to get back to work. She picked up a cloth and polished the counter a little, waiting for a customer to make their way in.

About that time, Maxwell would find his way through the door and into the low-class establishment. Being a lowly shopkeeper, it would seem fit that he might need a drink or two... dozen... It was especially taxing work for the mute. He usually had to communicate through writing, or through sign-language, as most people might not take too kindly to telepathy. It wasn't for him to really impose anyways. While the city was very keen on energies and the supernatural, that doesn't mean they all possessed said abilities. When it came right down to it, Max would just be much better off not toying with it, which is how he usually conducts his business. Unfortunately for the shopkeeper, he'd still have to WORK to get some service in this joint, being a mute.
He considered sitting at the bar initially, but then thought about taking a seat at a table in the corner instead. He would be less likely to be ridiculed if he'd order by paper at a table, rather than at the bar where he'd be the center of attention. After all, he had been ridiculed for most of his life. People usually walk up to him, all cocky, and generally half-drunk, poking fun at his main defect. Being unable to speak, he would only be able to defend himself through fighting, which he constantly did growing up. However, most of the city has learned to respect him, and his handicap. And bearing that thought in mind, Maxwell only grinned, and made his way to the bar, sitting at the newly polished counter top, because he was totally a douche like that.

Hitomi watched a man enter the bar and take a seat at the bar. She was surprised at how uncrowded it was. Usually this was the time of night when every drunk in the city would make his or her way here for a glass. She wondered if there was anything special about today, but shook her head. It was just one of those slow nights, nothing special. She picked up her head slowly, brushing her bangs out of her face. This was a useless action, as within two seconds they would fall back into her face again, as that is what the hairdresser intended them to do, but still, it made her feel better momentarily.
"Hi, welcome to Louie's. Need a drink?" She asked, grinning. It was always better to have a smile on your face when dealing with a customer. If they were a nice person, then it would make them a little happier, and if they were a jerk, well, smiling like no tomorrow always aggravates someone like that.

Maxwell smiled in reply, nodding as he went to pull out his notepad. On it, he wrote down his specific order.
Good evening. I would like a bottle of your highest quality vodka, as well as a bottle of Vault. I'm feeling particularly stormy today, wrote the mute, almost as quickly as one could say it. His skills as a writer were unparalleled, as he had to utilize the pen to communicate. Dotting his last sentence, he set the pen down, ripped the sheet from his little notepad, and almost handed it to the lady, but not before a final note.
Oh, by the way, I'm a mute.

Almost there now. Akiko ran through the forest a package tucked in her arms. Yuri had asked her to run a package to a friend of his. That was all she got to know and that was all she needed to know. She had to earn her keep somehow or so she thought. He didn't seem to mind her living with him but she felt bad not being useful.
Out of the forest now she reached the town, more and more buildings starting to come into view. She glanced around, unsure exactly where she was looking for. She hadn't been told an address, she had been told a usual hangout spot. It was a low class bar in town. So after asking around and following a few street signs she went on her way. "There it is!" She smiled running toward the building she could tell was a bar. She was starting to get tired seeing that she'd run none stop from her home in the woods.
"Agh!" Akiko exclaimed as she neared the door to the restaurant she tripped, the package flying out of her hands and hitting the door. A few people laughed but she just stood and dusted herself off as best she could, retrieved her package and went into the door of the place. She glanced around the room. "H.. He's not here..." she said with a downhearted sigh. She knew who she was looking for and he definitely wasn't there. She stood in the doorway looking at the people inside with a disappointed look on her face. She was unsure of what to do now.

Hitomi read the note and mulled it over for a second in her head. For some reason she felt weird talking to him knowing that he couldn't talk back. She knew that he could hear her, but it seemed like to speak to him would be throwing her working voicebox in his face. Instead she chose to nod quickly and set to the task of getting him his drink. On her way back to the counter she spotted a girl coming through the door, looking around The redhead looked young and very confused, carrying some sort of package. It looked as though she was looking for someone, but Hitomi didn't know who or what for. She guessed from the disappointed look on the girl's face that the person she was looking for wasn't there. It wasn't too surprising, considering it was pretty much just the mute, Louie, and the young redheaded girl. She glanced around the room quickly and picked up a mental note of the rest of the customers. There was a man in the corner as well, and two people talking at one of the other tables, most likely a couple. She continued towards the counter, and acknowledged the girl. "Welcome to Louie's...you look lost. Anything I can do for you hun?" She asked, now behind the counter with a now with two bottles in hand.

Akiko's breathing finally started to slow as she stood for a while after the run here. She heard the voice of the woman working there. "I'm afraid I don't have any money. I'm sorry." She said with a slight sigh. She went further into the room and sat down at the bar figuring she'd wait a bit longer to see if the person was coming at all. She tucked the package on her lap and rested her elbows on it. "Seems like a slow day huh?" she asked in a cheerful voice. Almost to cheerful and it didn't fit in with the surroundings, but Akiko didn't seem to notice. "What are your names?" She asked, acknowledging the man who was also sitting at the counter with a smile.

The mute Max just lowered his head, shaking it slightly. He was hoping he'd get his drinks before the waitress started to chat, but that obviously wasn't going to be the case. Instead, he figured he might have some fun with the girl who asked of his name. He didn't usually use his telepathy so liberally, but hey, he wouldn't be the first, right? Turning around, he faced the girl and looked straight into her eyes as he projected.
"The name is Maxwell Thatcher. And yours?" he asked as he grinned. His mouth hadn't moved, and he was wondering if the girl might catch on. There was always the possibility that she might not. Of course, moving his mouth while projecting might've added some effect to the whole display.

Rayne watched as she heard the mans voice but didn't see his mouth move. It made her jump in her chair a little. She had no idea what was going on. "Wh-what?" She asked in a confused voice. "That was you talking right? How did you do that?" She asked in an almost excited manner. She'd never encountered telepathy before. She'd never even heard of it. She didn't know much about magics and such other than what she had learned in healing.
She laughed a little at her own ignorance and smiled. "Well anyway it's nice to meet you Maxwell Thatcher my name is Rayne." she said holding out a hand for a handshake unsure if he would take it. Still she was definately curious about how he had spoken without speaking but she didn't want to bombard the man with hundreds of questions in fear of seeming rude.

Hitomi, seeing that both of the customers were at least slightly settled in, brought the bottles over to the man and set them down on the table. "Anything else?" She asked, glancing at the two of them. Once again she brushed the bangs from her face, wondering quietly if there were any hair clips around. She didn't like having her eyes covered while she was working, it made her lose focus on whatever she was doing.
She could have sworn that the girl had said something about the man speaking, but she remembered that he had said he was a mute, and shook it off. She must have heard it wrong, distracted by the order of drinks and her bangs hanging down over her eyes.

Maxwell turned his head towards the waitress, smiling and shaking his head, before returning his glance to the other woman at the bar, shaking her hand while smiling and nodding.
"Rayne... That's a nice name. I'm not entirely familiar with it either, so it's a new name at that. My name's really lame, and common... Maxwell... There's no pizazz!" projected the mute as he continued to smile. You could tell by the look in his eyes how much he was enjoying messing with Rayne's mind. Though he couldn't help but wonder how she hadn't come across telepathy yet. The city was very supernaturally inclined, thus she had to be from out of town.
"Where are you from?"

Rayne placed her hand back onto her lap holding the package that she had almost forgotten about in place. The person she was looking for still wasn't there yet. She shuddered a little as she heard Maxwell's voice in her head again but tried not to make it to obvious. She smiled. "Well I think it's a good name." she stated politely with a smile on her face. She heard his question and thought of the best way to answer it.
"The forest." She stated simply. "That's all I can really say. My step-father and I live in a hut there." She smiled glancing at her feet that she was subconsciously kicking the air with as her legs dangled off the chair. She turned to Hitomi for a moment. "Umm... Would you mind if I had a glass of water please? I have no money now but I could pay you back later. I promise I will." She said bowing a little as she stated her plea. She was quite thirst from the run there but she felt horrible asking for things she hadn't the money to pay for. She didn't look Hitomi in the eye in fear of being yelled at.

Maxwell shook his head, reaching into his pocket and placing a couple bills on the counter. On one of the bills, he left a short note.
Please, allow me. This will cover her water.
Returning the writing utensil to his pocket, he turned to Akiko again with yet another of his seemingly endless supply of smiles, as he very much enjoyed helping others. It was his job, anyways. To serve the people who come into his store. Why not help people when he's around to do so? He wasn't afraid of anyone, and made it a point to never be a stranger, thus his friendly and outgoing (definitely outgoing for a mute) demeanor.
